The sun sat like a golden orb just above the desert horizon.
Peacocks called, and the nearby Arabian Sea whispered cool tones into the quiet morning air.
She walked slowly, barefoot on the sandy path.
White cotton robes billowed softly in the breeze.
Her gaze, like her gait, was steady and open, attentive to the brightness of the day unfolding.
I followed some distance behind, equally slow.
Awed not only by her presence, but by the life she had chosen and the quiet devotion with which she lived it.
She was a Jain nun.
It was 1997, and we were both studying meditation in a small village region of Gujarat, India.
Her vows were simple and exacting: no shoes, no transport other than her own feet, a life committed to non-violence, renunciation and truth. There was nothing dramatic about the way she held them. She was full of grace, clarity and kept a deep alignment between inner values and outer life.
That image of her was angelic, otherworldly, luminous. It has stayed with me for almost thirty years.
It has shaped my own walk (with shoes), my work, and the way I understand leadership, non-violence and service. For some moments in our lives quietly mark us. They don’t shout. They don’t fade. They become reference points we return to again and again.
That morning in India became one of mine.
It is also the quiet inspiration behind The Luminous Path, the mentoring journey I now offer women who are standing at a threshold of their own.
It’s not a path of austerity.
Not a call to renounce the world.
But an invitation to live with greater awareness, truth and inner coherence.
The Luminous Path is where women step into the light of their own wisdom, insight and becoming.
Where they learn to listen inward, trust what they hear, and shape lives that are not perfect but are honest and deeply aligned.
You don’t need to travel to India.
You don’t need to walk barefoot or take lifelong vows.
But you can choose to bring your whole heart.
You can choose to walk with intention.
You can choose to do this year differently.
I’m currently opening places for three women ready to explore a new season of themselves and their lives. Women who sense a quiet inner call and are willing to respond to it with care and courage.
If this year is the year to honour yourself, I’d be honoured to walk beside you.
Because sometimes the most meaningful journeys begin exactly where we are.
With gentle attention, open presence, and a willingness to step forward.
With heart,
Chandu
